A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.

I survived.

In fact, it wasn't that bad.  Of course, I am lucky enough to start on a pretty light service.  Oh, and I haven't had call yet.  You know, that time when you are the first line call for a full half of the surgical patients in the hospital.  That's Thursday.

Nope, not too bad at all.  I ran around the floors, a truly confused animal.  Part chicken-with-its-head-cut-off and part deer-in-the-headlights, I was both aimless and frozen with fear.  But people were nice.  They know we are new and don't have a clue.

But I have to say, as I wrote notes, wrote discharge summaries and instructions, wrote orders and answered questions, I kept waiting for someone to run up to me, tear my white coat from my body and tell me to "Get the hell outta here!"

It didn't happen.  But I felt like it should.  I ain't no doctor.

Oh.  Wait.  I suppose I am.

I suppose you is a doctor, Peter. How was that whole first day thing? Hope you survived.

Hope you're finally settling in a bit. I miss your kids

Just think how seasoned and professional you'll be in a couple of years . . . old man.

Congratulations for making it through the first day, mate. They say this is the hardest day on any new job but I would imagine it would be degrees harder given the job you're doing.

But I felt like it should. I ain't no doctor.

Oh. Wait. I suppose I am.

Oh yes you are...

That made me laugh, lol!

Hey first days are always tough but in no time you'll be like a fish in water!!!

You have spent years studying and training.  You cannot just snap a finger and voila, you are no longer studying and training, you are doing.  It would be easy if you could.  One day you are going to wake up and know you are a Doctor, not just remind yourself of it.  You will feel like you have been doing it all your life (and by that time - it will almost be true!)

Thanks for the comments.

It is getting better, and at a pretty rapid rate to be honest.  That first night of surviving call makes a world of difference.
