A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
-or- mental dribblings

6 inches.  Snow that is.  We had six inches this morning after having had it all melt.  In fact, I mowed my lawn on Saturday.  Then it snows six stinkin' inches.  I'm not entirely surprised.  I knew it would snow again.  I just didn't think it would be as much as it was, nor stick like it did.  But I am confident it will melt before too long.

Yes, I mowed my lawn.  Just the front lawn.  The previous owner hadn't mowed the lawn the entire year.  It was, literally, 10 inches long in some parts.  It was just an ugly, matted, brown mess.  So I bought a lawn mower and went at it Saturday afternoon.  Two hours, five 30 gallon bags of grass and 4 different directions of mowing later, and it actually looks pretty good.  I have always taken pride in yard work, it is nice to finally have my own yard to work in.

I am getting sick and tired of being a Surgery intern.  Internship is almost over, which is great.  But mentally, I am done with Gen Surg.  I am ready to move on to Urology.  But I have one more year to do.  I guess I better put on a smile and suck it up.  Ugh.

Musically, I have about 20 albums I want to write reviews on.  I wonder how many I will actually get done.  I really do need to review Wolverine's Cold Light of Monday.  It is, in all honesty, the most depressing listening experience of my life.  It is hauntingly beautiful and powerful, but once you reach the end of "The Final Redemption" I just pretty much feel like dying.  It is that powerful.

Rush has a new album coming out on May 1st.  I think San Chonino and I will both have to review it.  Bought my tickets to see them down in Boston in the end of June.  It should be a wicked cool show.  The new single "FarCry" is a great Rush tune.  Head to Rush.com and listen to it.  And while you are there, read the story of Snakes and Arrows, and you will realize just what a class act Rush are.

Been playing Crackdown a lot lately on my 360.  It is a fabulous game.  Being one with limited game play time, I don't mind that the main campaign can be beat in a relatively short time.  I still haven't beat it and I am loving every minute of it.  It is one of those games that just gets it.  I gets how to be fun.  And with a game, that is what matters.  Just being fun.

Well fellow JUers, good to see you again.  I have been lurking in the sidelines, and reading what you have to say.  I just haven't logged in to leave a comment in a while.  Sorry about that.

Just testing to see if I can post from my Pocket PC.

Edit: Looks like I can. Cool.

Very cool.

I, too, have a pile of albums I want to review. Daath's new one, "The Absence of Truth" (which may end up being my favorite album from last year when it's all said and done), the new Neurosis one, tons more.

Oh, and Fear of a Blank Planet. I cheated and downloaded it last week. It's AWESOME. Can't wait for it to come out so I can listen to it in nice, matching quality instead of being a hodgepodge of bitrates and qualities.

Oh well. Good to see you, man.

I enjoyed my urology rotation during my internship. Mind you, it was 25 years ago, but I remember we had these neat erectile prostheses and nocturnal penile tumescence monitors we'd use on our patients. Probably stone age compared to what they have now.

I envy your pocket PC - I just have a Palm and one of my favourite Apps DiagnosisPro runs only on the former and on Windows so far.

Nice to hear from you, and nice to hear that your life isn't just about work.

Me too. But I never went to med school for it.

I am guessing you meant The Hinderers?  Since The Absence of Truth is Isis' new one from last year.  You really like it that much eh?  Right now, I would be hard pressed to give it a 7/10.  It is good, has some interesting things to it, but in my opinion, pales in comparison to Ashes Against the Grain, Ruun, Blood Mountain, Ragnarock and a few others.  I will have to listen to it some more.

Nice to hear from you, and nice to hear that your life isn't just about work.

Nah, not all about work.  Just mostly about work.

Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by Shovelheat and FS!

Nice read...here is hoping another year of your internship goes well.

As for the pocket pc...that sounds pretty awesome.

No, I didn't put enough sentence breaks in. Daath's new one, which I like and could give a comfortable 8, I think. I need to write a separate review of Isis' album, which I think is my favorite from last year. I dunno, Ashes Against the Grain gives it some stiff competition, but in the long run, I'm afraid I favor "Absence of Truth". It's freaking brilliant.

Hope I was more clear that time.

LW: Thanks for stopping by.

InBloom: Thanks as well.

SanCho: Ah, gotcha.  Interesting.  I like the Isis disc, but I would still probably put it behind those others I listed.  I actually like Cult of Luna more than Isis.

I like "Salvation" best of all the drone-metal I've ever heard, but I simply love "Absence of Truth". Still, "Ashes Against the Grain" is breathtaking, "Blood Mountain" is brutal, and "Ragnarok" is just plain cool. I dunno; I've got this thing for sludgy, drony metal.

And it's all your fault.

Hey mate, good to see you. Sorry I missed this when you posted it. To be honest, I've not been hanging around much, only doing the occasional commando raid on the forums when I get time and increasingly posting only to the Writing thread.

Still, always good to see a friendly face. Hope all is well with you and yours.
