A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
after a startling realization
Published on January 10, 2006 By BlueDev In Health & Medicine
I'm not a small guy, by any means. 6'3" tall, I have always had a large frame and a fair amount of muscle mass.

But in the past few years I have added some unneeded and unwanted insulation to all that. However, I hadn't really realized just how much until, on a whim, I stepped on a scale the other day. Needless to say, shocked isn't quite the word. No, I won't say how much, but it was a lot more than I or my wife thought.

So I made a resolution. And while it has felt good to get more exercise, I am pooped. I have been getting up at 4:00 or so in the morning to have time to work out for 2 hours or so. It has already paid off, dropping 4 lbs in since Saturday. I feel good as well, but I think I will be going to bed a little early.

Wow, that's some dedication. And here I was patting myself on the back for waking up to go to the gym at 7am (I'm not a morning person). Congrats on losing 4 pounds!

I need to do the same... Gah...

But I lack willpower

Plus, I don't think the roommate would appreciate me busting out the nordic track at 4 AM

Join me in the Parking Lot gym Tues, Thurs and Sat for an hour of eliptical and then some weights! There aren't too many folks there at 4:30!

Hey...Dr...isn't 4 lbs alot in such a short amount of time?

More power to you!  Guess I need to start now as my wife decided to do Weight Watchers.  I am usually up around 4, so a morning JOg is more my speed.

Nice work, Dev. Hope you continue and don't get unmotivated. Focus on your successes and how much you want those successes to continue.

Now that I'm back from my surgery I intend on doing the same. And maybe one day my baby will sleep through the night without intervention... so I can get up at 5:30 to jog on our treadmill or go to the fitness center at work.

It is Marcie. But my body just seems to do that. Once I start working out for real and watch what I eat, I tend to drop pounds pretty quick, especially at first. Plus, I can tell I am dehydrated, so there is probably some water in there too.

Thanks Doc. Have a good jog!

Thanks Dave. My wife agreed to letting me have some external motivation as well, so I have a super sexy photo of a black 30 gig iPod video on my computer to look at daily. I figure a gig a pound, so 26 more to lose (25.5 as of this morning) and I get me my new toy.

Good luck with it mate. I'm also getting on the fitness treadmill (sorry about the pun). I don't need to lose weight but I do need to improve my overall stamina. I think this year is going to be a particularly busy year, both on stage and off. I need to be able to keep up with the younguns in the band. Phew, its hard work though.

No doubt. I have been really tired this week. Eventually my stamina will improve and I know I will feel better, but till then I am just forcing myself to stick it out.

Good luck with getting some of the weight off... I have about 35 to go and I will be happy.
