I have decided that I really like showing off my desktop. And I have also decided that this blog is a good place to
show it off. Even if no one cares, because, well, I can. I also continue to think that showing the common user
what can be done for OS customization with ease may introduce others and give them the bug to try it for themselves.
I mentioned in my previous article on OS customization
that I have this neurosis of changing frequently, and it is true. I am now on my second desktop set up since my
last article, but this one is very graceful, clean, and functional. Enough so that I think it will be around for a while.
Pillar of Light is the
beautiful backdrop that sets up the whole base of the set up. I then built upon that with Opus, a clean and classy skin. Throw in 3 docks with Object Dock Plus, one zoomer on the bottom, and
two tabbed docks on the sides and I have an attractive, clean, open, and very functional desktop. One I think will
be around for a while, until the madness grabs me again.
But just to make things even more fun I added in some great Desktop X objects. The effects on the
recycle bin icon are great, not only making it a bit bigger, but adding some nice animation when I mouse over it or select it.
I also have a very nice weather object that has two states, the one pictured and then a small icon with only the location and
temp, and some great digital readouts of system information and the date and time. Using the overlay keys I can make all those
disappear or appear by hitting the F10 key. I can also show off some of the cool features of Windowblinds, with one window
rolled up and another transparent.
So, again, with little real effort on my part I can totally change the look and feel of my desktop, and add some much
needed personality to my daily workspace. Go and customize!
