A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
-or- so stop saying otherwise

Note: I generally avoid partisan politics. They disgust me. I lie pretty much in the middle, but won't deny a conservative tilt to the way I think. Nevertheless, I refuse to register with either major political party and have avoided the majority of political discussion on the site. But what follows is openly partisan.

We are all closed minded.

Every one of us. And I am fed up with liberals pissing about closed-minded conservatives/Christians/righties. Guess what, you are all just as closed-minded, and it is about time someone reminded you that. Since when did being open-minded mean only agreeing with and accepting what the left preaches? Oh, right, it doesn't.

See, I am closed-minded. I know it, I admit it, and to be honest I don't have any problem with it. There are things I think are wrong. Period. There are things that I think are right, and no amount of pseudo-intellectualism is going to change that. And there are a lot of people in this great country who are the same, with their own set of beliefs of what is right and wrong.

And yet the liberals seem to think we are idiots, trailer-trash, simpletons, and various other epithets that seem to flow from their tongues so freely these days. They insist that people like me are closed-minded because we have convictions. You bet I am. What they fail to own up to is the fact that their "open minds" are just as closed as mine. Just read what they have to say. If you don't think about something the same way they do there is something inherently wrong with you. You are defective if you don't fall into the same tank of touchy-feely group think. Because they so obviously have the corner on all rational thought and truth, thinking in a different manner makes you the enemy.

What blatant, vile hypocrisy.

Liberals, conservatives, and everyone in between and off the charts has their own way of thinking. Those ultimate chameleons who change at a whim are not only pathetic, but they disgust me. But who is worse? The person who is so spineless they change their colors with the changing wind, or the one dead set in their way of thinking yet who spouts off diatribes about the evil closed-minded others? Personally, I think hypocrisy is more distasteful.

So why direct this specifically to liberals? Certainly not all of them fall into this category, but in my experience it tends to be the liberals who loudly proclaim their open-mindedness while berating other ways of thinking. The conservatives are generally comfortable with the fact that they are closed-minded to a degree, so refrain from the chest-thumping. And so yes, I am making generalizations, but it doesn't take much of a peak through the forums to find support for the generalizations.

But I'm not going to tell you to be open-minded. I know I'm not all the time and so wouldn't dream of telling you to be. So go ahead. Call me unintelligent or unenlightened because I have faith. Call me closed-minded and immoral because I have morals and don't shift them with the winds of popularity. But if you ever want us to take you seriously again, drop the hypocrisy and have the spine to look yourself in the mirror and admit you are just as closed-minded as the rest of us.

I couldn't have said it better myself. You're dead on! Seems Liberals are so open minded their brains fell out.

Bonus points for spelling "hypocrisy" correctly all the way through.

Blue Dev--I appreciate your point completely, but am not sure that it is as one sided as you state. I've been told many, many times that I am close minded because of my liberal leanings. The partisan bickering that goes on around here is disgusting. However, I am getting tired of reading about how evil, kooky, stupid, misdirected, elitism, and arrogant that I am for being a liberal. The spite is running both ways, as is clearly demonstrated by your first response.

No, it isn't. I wouldn't pretend that it is. This article was birthed by a series of experiences, both online and in real life, in the past few days that just really pissed me off. Yes, the name calling goes both ways and I could write an article going the other way, because, to be honest, the neo-cons make me just as ill.

But personally I haven't seen the conservatives I am around calling the liberals closed-minded. It almost always seems to be the liberals (again, the ones I know and have contact with) who have been lately spouting the most venomous comments regarding stupid Christians being closed minded. And I have had enough.

But I appreciate your points and agree that it goes both ways. This article just took a particular slant. I am sure the neo-cons will give me plenty of fodder for a new one soon.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Ah, yes. Unenlightened. Please show us the light! All of us ignorant, peasants need to be told what to do.

BlueDev: Did you let the beast loose?

This is an excellent article.

We are all closed minded.

This is true . . . we like to try to convince ourselves that we are not, but we are, in one way or another. No one is immune.

And yet the liberals seem to think we are idiots, trailer-trash, simpletons, and various other epithets that seem to flow from their tongues so freely these days.

I don't think that. I'm far from perfect, and am still sorting through my beliefs and trying to figure this big 'ol world out, but I do realize that there are just so, so, so, so many conservatives (and liberals and everything in between) out there who are far brighter, far more educated, far more experienced in life, and far more 'good' than I am and I am not under the illusion that I know the way everything should work. I can only operate on what I know, what I understand, and what I feel is right. I suspect that most everyone else does the same.

Hopefully we are all basing our beliefs on what we think is best for our country and not what is best for ourselves or what would make us feel vindicated.

Call me closed-minded and immoral because I have morals and don't shift them with the winds of popularity.

I think this one of the most admirable of qualities. I appreciate when people admit mistakes and try to correct them, so I certainly don't like stubbornness, but someone who has convictions that they adhere to . . . and most importantly, live by . . . is to be admired and emulated.

I know you don't Texas. I would never have implied you did.

That earns you an insightful. Nicely said, and sadly, often forgotten.

I really didn't think this was directed at me, but sometimes I feel like if I don't speak up the only voice that will be heard from the left will be one of hate filled Demo rhetoric. When that happens, I feel guilty . . . even though I don't consider myself a dem, I line up more on the left side, and I feel like I should say something to counter all the negativity. This was kind of something I learned from greywar. He told me it was my responsibility to speak up and try to keep my "side" in line. Of course, I usually get ignored and the caustic Dem usually gets all the responses, but what can I do?

That earns you an insightful. Nicely said, and sadly, often forgotten.

Thank you very much.

I am not disagreeing that there are plenty of "liberals" calling "conservatives" close-minded. However, while the words "close minded" might not be uttered, it is completely implied when the "left" is slandered as being "elitist," "arrogant," "misdirected," "unstable," and a bunch of "kooks." You notice the liberals attacking conservatives because it is indirectly an attack on you and what you believe; I see the conservatives attacking liberals for the same reason. We both are placing the emphasis on the side of the story that relates most to us.

The only thing that we can do, is not succumb. The cycle will only continue with every slander uttered. Everytime the left calls the right stupid, the right is going to call the left arrogant. While we can't control everyone, we should make an effort to judge each individual by their thoughts and opinions and not ascribe to them the weight of the beliefs of an entire political party. I am no more arrogant than any of my conservative friends, just as they are no dumber than I.

I guess, what I am trying to say in a long winded way is what Gandhi summed up in a sentence, "Be the change you want to see in the world." If we want to end the bickering and name calling, it must first start with us.

Well, according to the dictionary I just checked, Open Minded means you are receptive to argumenst and new ideas.
I'd like to think I am that.
Of course, I can discard those new ideas and arguments as wrong.. am I then closed minded? Interesting.. .

The name calling you refer to.. well... both sides give as good as they take I'd think.

Btw: Hey! only saw your comment today.. Have not checked my Blog for a while.. too busy loosing my job [because of gaming].

Absolutely. This article was just spawned by one half of it that had really gotten on my nerves that day. Thanks for stopping by.
