Taking the Gal Civ II plunge
-or- a second first

A while ago I wrote an article about how I actually pre-ordered a game, in that case it was UT2004. I never had pre-ordered a game before, and figured I probably never would. I was not disappointed at all with UT2004, but have lately played games less and less.
Well, I have had a second first.
I went ahead and just pre-ordered Galactic Civilizations II. Yeah, yeah, I know it isn't much of a pre-order (only one day!), but I did it anyway. I suppose that, given Stardock's track record, I knew I would be getting it anyway, so why not on release day? And, thanks to the direct download option, I was able to purchase it, get it already preloaded, so I won't have to pay for or wait for any shipping.
Plus, it is my sincere hope that purchasing it directly via download from Stardock means they get all of the $45.
I don't buy games that often, so good work Stardock in making one I am willing to pre-order.

Make sure to DL the videos and tutorials, they are very well done and helpful.
Now I just have to finish a presentation for work and wait.
BTW you need the RAD Video tools from BINK to watch them. (Free DL)

I pre-ordered from Stardock today, too.
How long did you have to wait to receive the e-mail with your serial number?

[EDIT]
Apologies for double post. This site is really slow

Pretty much instantly. The best thing was I didn't even need that. As I opened Stardock Central it automatically updated my account info, and I was ready to preload the game.

I look forward to playing the game so I can review it Cordelia!
Seriously though, as I have been reading through the manual, I am getting more and more excited for tomorrow night so I can give it a whirl.

Great review Rimjob.
I have only fired it up, looked at a tut or two, and started a game to see how it looked.
Looks gorgeous, menus and all. Preload was smooth (for the most part), and final install was great. Started without problems and initial impressions are very positive. We'll see what more I have to say when I can finally play for real.
