A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
-or- the suit vs. the slacker
Published on May 23, 2006 By BlueDev In OS Wars
By now, I am sure most of us have seen the new round of Mac vs. PC commercials. You know, the one with the middle age, sort of uptight looking, fuddy-duddy dude in a suit representing a PC, and the young, hip, cool, laid-back dude in old jeans and a T-shirt representing a Mac.

I have seen a couple of variations, but they all focus on the same thing. They all are trying to convey the same message: Macs are just cool and "work", whereas PCs are out of touch, laborious and problematic. Of course, I find it odd that so much of the advertising lately is on the hardware (considering I am typing this entry on my Windows laptop with Intel Core Duo processors, an pretty nice ATI graphics card, more RAM than a Mac Book and a larger HD than a Mac Book, at easily a few hundred dollars lower cost).

Nevertheless, I am not a Mac hater. In fact, I fully anticipate owning a Mac someday, when I can afford to have one IN ADDITION to my Windows computers. But I have to admit, I really don't care for these new ads. They just seem like such a faulty use of details, that honestly, I think they are embarrassing. In that spirit I share the following (sorry, can't paste the image myself as it is not mine and I don't have permission to be pasting it):

An alternative comparison between PC dude and Mac dude.

I found this quite entertaining.

To the MAC's credit it does have a few little nifty features as other have mentioned. But, and this is a fact. The MAC runs Windows XP "BETTER" than it does it's own operating system. The MAC "hides" alot of admin features, settings, amoung other things from the user to protect itself, granted. But it sucks for a power user.

(Back in the 90s I never thought I would say this about a Mac, but.....)

The Command line is your friend.

Something funny happened today. I tried to watch a streaming video with quicktime, it was impossible. I was using firefox with it. On Windows Media Player, No Problem.

PC'S are cheap and functional. Mac's are expensive and limited. Mac's may work well but they only support Apple hardware(Mainly). PC's do everything macs can and then some. For the cost conscious, pcs are the bomb. Thanx to sony, pcs are also stylish, so macs can't claim that for themselves. And for customization, objectdock has that well covered. And with the advent of xp the blue screen of death is almost totally gone.

90% of the planet can't be wrong - think about it the primary reason for a person buying a Mac is because they hate Bill Gates, the real irony is they also aspire to become what he is...................

Makes no sense at all....snot nosed Steve Jobs by far is the more despicable of the two.

If personalities were for sale, Job's wouldn't be able to pay anyone to take his, much less give it away. Thank goodness the majority purchase computers based on need and functionality, rather than CEO personalities.

Arise my bastard child!  ARISE!

After a long month of quiescence it is good to see this come up from the depths of the forums.

On topic, I had the opportunity to educate a colleague of mine who was not aware of some of the excellent functions of Windows, think that the Mac was inherently better or easier.  I did not dissuade him from his potential purchase of a Mac, just educated him that everything he wanted to do on a Mac could be done on a PC just was well.

That's the best thing, advise people of their options and let them decide suits their needs the best. I just hate it when a fanboys try to hard sell me something that may be perfect for them but not necessarily for me, which I guess is why I hate damned advertising so much. When I want or need something, I like to get out in the stores to do my own research and comparisons, to ask questions about products but not have them forced down my throat before they were posed.

I will get a Mac for myself, not because of any fanboys or advertising but simply because I want one to play with....oh how I love new toys.

Don't speak too soon, Meowy....ooops, too late! Now your words'll come back to bite us all on the arse.
