A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
Published on October 20, 2006 By BlueDev In Blogging

I knew it was wrong.  I knew it would get ugly.  But, in my moment of weakness, I did it anyway.  And I was write.  It was ugly.

I fed a troll.

I am not nearly as veteran as many here when it comes to internet communities, but I have been around for a few years now.  Certainly long enough to know that you never, ever get anything but a headache when you engage a troll.

It doesn't matter how you reply.  You can be cool as can be, and attempt to reason with them, only to have them fly off the handle and become the aggressors.  You can give them the verbal smack down and let them have it for all you are worth.  They will just dish it right back.

I did this.  I tried being flippant, aggressive, reasonable, and even slightly imploring.  And each time I was met with frustration.  To the troll's credit, he/she got the best of me.  I allowed myself to get sucked in.  Fortunately, I realized before it had been more than a few posts, and I was able to put a stop to things.

Nevertheless, it frustrates me I got sucked in.

But what frustrates me more is the very real possibility that I may have to start making my blogs "Registered Users" only.  I have a couple of friends who stop by on occassion who don't have JU accounts, so I have left things open for their sake.  But that may have to change.  This article will be the litmus test.  We'll see what happens from here.

I am going to have to write the ACLU and stop this insane outright bigotry against trolls.

Yes, Bluedev, it's a real conundrum; make it so everyone can enjoy your blog and suffer anon trolls or voluntarily limit it?

MM: That's the shit! Sooo funny!

Oh you go for it MM.  I'll stand against you.  I am firmly opposed to troll's rights.

That is what I am trying to balance.  I am willing to put up with a few trolling comments (that I may delete) from anonymous users here and there, but it was becoming a bit of a problem.  And that I just don't want to deal with.

What about the trolls who are registered?

Buwhahahahha.

Trolls, they're like car wrecks. You know it's going to be gruesome, and just horrible - but it is extremely hard to not notice.

There really ought to be a 12 step (or 6 step, for those who are time constrained)
program for ignoring trolls. I'm being serious, there really should.

*rubs hands evily*

It's the perfect opportunity for a new, and improved "troll be gone" spray.

Remember, Don't feed the trolls - they bite the hand that feeds them.

(Repeat after me.)

Best of luck in life.

I must admit this was funny!LOL!

The problem with trolls is you don't know where they will pop up next. Just when you think you've seperated them out, you come back to find them in your garden.

   Hehe, thanks.

But would it work on you, Lucas?

No of course not silly. That would be senseless. It would only create more of me.

Meh, I'm still in the development stages. Give me a ring in a few weeks. For some reason, the spray's only making them better.

The beauty of the blacklist, no?

Remember, Don't feed the trolls - they bite the hand that feeds them.

True that.  They bite until they taste blood, then they never let go.

Heh, it was supposed to conjure up bad memories of chemistry!

I was thinking the same thing

Fortunately, most of them already leave me alone.  I must smell.

I think that is what upset me the most this last time.  I thought one was gone and done.  Only to pop back up, uglier than ever.

But it would appear that this most recent missive has been troll free thus far.  I hope that is a good sign.

Hmm, maybe you bottle your scent and sell it as an anti-troll spray. But how to get the scent off you?
on Oct 23, 2006
Hmm . . . stupid trolls, I got sucked in by that one as well. Oh well. Whatever.

Hey Maso, remember when we were making up that song written to the Ghostbusters theme (I don't remember what about)? We should make a new version, Trollbusters.

Kick 'em where it hurts!

San Chonino,

You do the first verse this time... Feed my creative juices, so to speak.

Depending on the day, I am sure my scent keeps more than trolls away!

Yeah, but I appreciated you having my back there bro.  It was swell of you.

LW: I'm liking it!
