Years ago I wrote a blog about Audioscrobbler. It went so completely unnoticed that I am not even going to bother digging it up. But, with all the advancements in the idea and the site, I just had to come and share again. Plus, perhaps some of you will sign up and add me as a friend. I only have one so far.
To make things nice and easy, Last.fm is a website that allows you to share your musical tastes with the world. You, the user, create an account, download the Last.fm software, log in with your account, and then just listen to music. The software takes the track info, uploads it to your Last.fm page and folks from around the world can see what you are into.
Want to know what I've been listening to lately? No problem, just head over here and take a peak. You can see my all time top artists, songs, my weekly artists and even what I have listened to most recently. In fact, here it is:
But sharing what you are listening to isn't all it is. It also is a customizable internet radio. You can head over, log in and play radio that might suit your tastes. If it doesn't, just ban the song. Love it? Say so and you will get more of that. It is really a great way to find new music.
Of course, the big concern is privacy. Oooooh, Big Brother might find out you are listening to "illegal" mp3s! Nope. All the software does is look at the artist/album/title info of the tag. It doesn't matter what format, if it is DRM'ed, on a CD, nothing. It doesn't share anything more.
Honestly, I think it is pretty cool. It is fun to see what my listening habits are as well. So head over and check it out!
