A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.
-or- yes, I am still a child

I have already admitted to being a geek. I recognize that and embrace it.

But I have another confession to make. I am also just a little boy. Deep down inside of me I still think and act like a little boy. Sometimes it drives my wife nuts (I don't blame her), but sometimes it really helps. And with our first little boy coming early next year, I will still be able to identify.

See, I love explosions (and still can make a mean, mean explosion sound effect), playing with cars, playing video games. I find burps to be great forms of humor, and farts can be pretty funny as well. I like well written and drawn comic books. I also love cartoons and super heroes. Which explains, in part, why I am so excited to see "The Incredibles".

I don't go see a lot of movies. They are expensive (but I do use my student discount), many are filled with crap I just don't feel like paying to see, others just plain suck, and then there is the issue of getting a babysitter. My wife and I have no desire to pay for a babysitter so we can go watch a mediocre movie. But when one comes out that I want to see I get pretty excited. And "The Incredibles" fits this bill. I have been chuckling every time I see anything about it since the very first trailer I saw.

So this morning I have to 'run' around the net, checking out the reviews. They look good. Really good.

I really have enjoyed the previous Pixar offerings. "A Bug's Life" is probably my least favorite, and I still enjoy that movie. Since "Finding Nemo" has become our youngest daughter's favorite film, I have truly come to appreciate just how good a movie it is. I have it practically memorized, but still find myself watching it with her, and not being bored.

And now they have combined super heroes with top notch animation. How could I not love it? I see other undercurrents in the story though. I see hints of the desire for each of us to retain part of our childhood as we grow up. Like Mr. Incredible, sneaking out to fight crime, I still sneak 'neath the gaze of my peers, playing computer games, playing with toys (my kid's of course), watching silly cartoons (Sponge Bob! Hoorah!), and finding joy in some of the more simple facets of life that society seems to think we should leave behind as we age.

Not me. I'll hang on to my childhood, thanks. And I will enjoy it, just like I will enjoy watching "The Incredibles" (hopefully tonight if the sitter doesn't flake on us!).

You know, if you can't hang on to some of the innocence of youth, then you'll just grow up to be a crotchety old AARP member.

Hey, pull my finger.

I love animated films! This and The Polar Express look to be the two big movies for me this holiday season! Unfortunately I don't have any small children to take to said films, so I'll get to endure a whole lot of really odd/mean looks from parents taking their kids. Seems the general assumption is that no older male would ever go to an animated film unless with a small child... no kid means I must be a mean nasty child molestor searching out my next victim

At least that's the vibe I get from some of those stares.

I'm a little kid at heart... animated films, fireworks, playing with legos... these are some of my favorite things in the whole world!

Zoomba--We sound very similar in that regard. I don't understand the idea that adults shouldn't enjoy animation. Thank goodness that there are pockets of (in)sanity out there that realize adults can enjoy animation just as much as children, even animation that isn't specifically (and explicitly) geared toward adults.

The freedom that animation offers just makes it even that much more appealing to me. "Build" whatever set you want, make your characters look like whatever you want. Sure, CGI in movies is achieving a lot of that as well, but there are still constraints that animation shakes off. Good stuff.

HiH--Thanks, we will. I am looking forward to it.

I've seen a lot of the previews and tie ins for the film and it looks awesome! And, I'll have to say for many of the same reasons you post. I love anything super-heroey and I enjoy animation. The characters looks really cool and the more I see of Mr Incredible, the more I like! This guy is a riot. I love the preview where he picks up the car after (what looks like) a crappy commute home! Has to be even more frustrating for a guy with super-powers! BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'll be seeing this one on the big screen fairly soon, too. Just gotta talk my wife into it!

Great post. We're looking forward to The Incredibles at my house, too!

(And as an added bonus, Incredibles-themed cereal was 99 cents at the commissary this week . . . can't beat that! )

My husband is still a kid at heart....it comes out whenever he is near our son....and sometimes when he isn't! I'm glad to hear other guys can let down their guard and enjoy life!

Was it flavored or just a sweetened corn cereal?

I loved Finding Nemo! But I've been enjoying the commercials for the movie (like the SBC Yahoo! ones with the little kid running to China because the freaking dialup is taking. so. long.).

I want to see this movie.

Well, it was great. More than worth it and hands down one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. Hope you all get to see it and enjoy as completely as I did.

Just be away that Pixar is NOT working on a sequel
