. . .And no one came?
In our case, you have fun anyway.
Last year we had quite a few friends over to our apartment to celebrate the arrival of the new year. Some came with their little ones, many left them home. We played games, ate treats, chatted, and generally had a great time. So this year we thought to repeat the feat. We invited some friends who live a couple hours away (they were planning on spending the night), some other friends who were still in town, and made sure we had plenty of goodies.
And no one came.
They all had good reasons (little kids with herpangina, 2 year old nuclear melt-downs, in-laws made surprise visits, etc). But it was just us: my wife, myself and our 5 year old (yeah, we let her stay up).
So we made the best of it. And we had a great time. We watched Shrek 2, played Old Maid, Crazy Eights, Uno, and Racko. We snacked, we laughed, and when it was all over we went to bed happy. Sometimes just a little family time is even better than what you had planned.
It sure was for us.
