I try not to gush too much about things I find online, but this one is just too freaking cool. I am sitting here, at the hospital on an incredibly slow day (all the surgeons on my service are out of town, but I am on call, so here I sit), at a computer in the Resident's call room. Bored, sure, but not nearly as much as I was. I am jamming out to a little Deadsoul Tribe. But the cool thing is, it isn't on my iPod (well, it is, but I don't have it with me). It is on my home PC. Last ni...
It is interesting. In the past, when my time here was very regular, I had a pretty good finger on the pulse of JU. I knew who really got along with who, those who hated each other, those who loved to argue but were congenial at the end of the day, etc. In short, I was pretty well informed when it came to the net soap operas that sprung up from time to time. Lately, though, that is not really the case. My diminished time spent here keeps me from reading all that much.&...
I dig gadgets. I really do. Well, okay, I lie. As someone who has DesktopX installed, I think objects are vastly inferior to widgets. I see the plus of objects not needing DX installed, blah, blah, blah. But for those of us who have DesktopX already, gadgets just really, really suck. Oh, and as an aside, it would appear I feel like whining today. Why do I think gadgets are inferior to widgets? There are a number of reasons: 1) They don't auto-install. A small point, sure, but ...
It is that time of year again. You know, that one day where some people try to make you celebrate that one thing you did all those years ago. That being born thing. Not that I really remember doing anything that day worth celebrating, least of all for 30 freaking years. But oh well. The kids like it, so I play along for their sake. The rumor is they are pretty excited about my cake. Usually I will pick what I want (and it usually isn't cake-I am much more of a pie person), but this year...
We have all done it. We have all cussed out those who are doing it. And yet that doesn't stop us from doing it ourselves, once again, the next time. We rubberneck . There is a perverse attraction in observing wrecks. For whatever the reason, we all want to see what happened. Perhaps we have delusions of being helpful (because, yeah, by the time we actually get there, they have been just waiting for us and our special talents, right?), perhaps we are curious, or may...
I survived. In fact, it wasn't that bad. Of course, I am lucky enough to start on a pretty light service. Oh, and I haven't had call yet. You know, that time when you are the first line call for a full half of the surgical patients in the hospital. That's Thursday. Nope, not too bad at all. I ran around the floors, a truly confused animal. Part chicken-with-its-head-cut-off and part deer-in-the-headlights, I was both aimless and frozen with fear. B...
Warning: This will be scattered. Bear with me, or feel free to stop reading. -The move to New Hampshire really went better than we could have even hoped for. The help from my family was invaluable. When I think about how hard it would have been had they not sacrificed their vacation to help us, I can't even begin to think about how overwhelming it would have been. I have a pretty amazing family. -Board scores are back, everything is in order, I start as a doctor on ...
The time has come. There is no other option. It was inevitable. Time to move on. That's right. Monday, June 12th, we leave our snug little home in North Carolina (which we really have come to love) and head up north to our (even more snug and little) home in New Hampshire. Preparations for the move, along with just the head games of getting everything in order, have pretty much sapped me of my will and desire to blog. It will return, of that I have no doubt. ...
I have tried and tried to get into the widget craze. I really have. I try just about every widget that gets released (with the exception of all the weather ones that are made to match a certain skin). In addition to all the DesktopX widgets I have tried, I have given just about every other widget program out there a fair test drive. I have used Konfabulator (now Yahoo! Widgets), Kapsules, dot Widget, EZPod, AveDesk, Samurize, and maybe even a couple others I can't recall.&nb...
Note: This is being posted on my JU blog, but will likely end up crossposted to WC. Not trying to SPAM the WC forums, as I am well aware of the screenshot section here as well as the monthly thread. Sorry if this caused any confusion to the WCers. I have posted before here regarding my almost pathologic fascination with changing my computer's desktop. I recently decided to just go ahead and indulge in that and start up a blog over at Blogger (due to the picture hosti...
Maybe I'm tired. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. Either way, I have to ask the following: What the hell is the deal with people who feel the need to forum bump every damn article they write? Are you just so damn impatient you can't wait the minute or two it takes for the forum database to update and your article to show up? I have never forum bumped one of my own articles, yet when I head to the forums I find every single one there, even if they have zero replies. ...
My most recent album review, Free by OSI, was also published over at Blogcritics.org , where I am a writer. I found out today though, that it was picked up and has been posted in the Music Reviews section of Cleveland.com . Needless to say, I was surprised to see it, but pleasantly so. It is fun to see your writing get recognized and published at other sites. You can see the review (and others) here .
Free Artist: OSI Year: 2006 The year 2003 saw the release of what has become one of InsideOut Music's top selling albums. What was it that made Office of Strategic Influence such a success? Of course, it is impossible to tell, but it is likely a multi-factorial effect. Dream Theater fans, who are often rabid and follow the members from side project to side project, picked it up to hear Mike Portnoy smack the skins. They also likely picked it up to hear more from ex-DT keyboar...
My amazingly talented wife is singing in Carnegie Hall at this very moment. She is up there with some members of the choral group she is a part of. She was able to attend a Broadway show last night, went jogging this morning in Central Park, and looks like she will be able to go sailing tomorrow. Hopefully she is having a great time. We figured this was a once in a lifetime experience, so we were glad she was able to go. So it is just me and the kids. And we ...
