A silly little blog for me to drop the excrement of my mind.

Just a quick question, but is the sidebar not updating for anyone else? The most recent article showing up for me is Gid's "For Conservatives Only", with everything else seeming to be frozen for the past few hours. Wondering if this is a site issue, or just something special for me (I am suspecting the former, since I get the same error after cleaning the cache and with other browsers).

I am sure many of us are familiar with the numerous tools out there to generate blog traffic. Gratefully, here at JU we have excellent methods built right into the blogging system. But I know that some blogs at other sites don't get nearly the traffic, and so we break down and use other methods. BlogExplosion is one of the oldest I know of, and I have been signed up there for a while. A good choice. But there are others worth checking out. BlogMad is a new one that is still...

My wife and I really love humus. It is interesting, because it is one of those things we just never had before we moved out here to NC. Not a lot of humus to be found in good, old homogeneous Utah (perhaps there is more now, it has been a few years, and I don't really recall looking for it). But one of the things that really bugs me is just how dang expensive it is, for not a whole lot of stuff. So, for our New Year's party, I decided to make some on my own, along with homemade pita chi...

I think it is now official. There can be no denying it. Just look at Hollywood and the media and it should be obvious. Being homosexual confers upon you magical, mystical powers. Homosexuality is the instant tool to elevate something from the blasé to the avant-garde. Take, for instance, tonight's Golden Globe awards. One of the front-runners in numerous categories is the acclaimed movie "Brokeback Mountain". Now, I haven't seen this movie, but I do know that every single time it w...

I know I am not the only one who has faced this dilemma before, as I have read comments from others along these lines. But it goes something like this. You read a blog, really enjoy what you read, but really don't have anything to say or add. So you wander on, and no one knows you read. I suppose you could just put a one or two word comment stating that you read and enjoyed it. So, I thought I would do something along those lines, just try to make it a little more fun. I am, therefore...

Well, since I made my resolution to get in shape and improve my health, one full week has now passed (I started mid week, so though it has been 9 days of exercise, I am going for the first full week). And I think that posting here will help me have a certain level of accountability, so I will report in. The first week went really well. I was able to exercise every day (except for Sunday, my workout 'day off'), and exercise substantially for the most part. I did a minimum of 40 minutes o...

Lately I have had one shocking experience after another. Often, I have multiple in one day. My wife has been having many shocking experiences lately as well. And today, at Church, I witnessed yet another. Shocking experiences all over the place. Literally. Dang static electricity. But seriously, for reasons I do not understand, I have been getting shocked with an heretofore unknown frequency and severity. Why, just the other day I was running on the treadmill and my hand hit a m...

Perhaps this is common to all forms of higher education. But since (gratefully) I am only persuing one graduate degree, I can only speak of my personal experience. We are often admonished to remember that our time in medical school is our education. Academic advisors remind us that it was our choice to come to medical school, and as such, the primary onus of responsibility to make that education counts rests upon our shoulders. I agree with them. This is my education, I should engage...

I'm not a small guy, by any means. 6'3" tall, I have always had a large frame and a fair amount of muscle mass. But in the past few years I have added some unneeded and unwanted insulation to all that. However, I hadn't really realized just how much until, on a whim, I stepped on a scale the other day. Needless to say, shocked isn't quite the word. No, I won't say how much, but it was a lot more than I or my wife thought. So I made a resolution. And while it has felt good to get mo...

Today was my first day back to school since my winter break. For reasons known only to the school, they decided that this winter break, during fourth year, would be the biggest since I started medical school. It was amazing! Between first and second year we got three weeks off. We spent half of that time visiting family back in Utah. That is great, but it is not a vacation. The flying, the driving to visit everyone, making sure you make the rounds and don't leave anyone out. And sinc...

So, over the break, my bro and I have had a bit more time to opine on some musical offerings. Feel free to stop by and tell us what you think. Porcupine Tree: Deadwing : Porcupine Tree released a progressive masterpiece with 2003's "In Absentia". Can they repeat the feat with their newest offering? Linkin Park: Hybrid Theora : One of the biggest of the rap-metal offerings from the school of nu-metal, do either of these albums have anything to offer the discerning listener? Are th...

Note: This is in no way related to the number of CPS articles that have been posted here, so if I got your hopes up, sorry, I am sure you will get over it. Britney Spears is a genius. Really, she is. Just look at her public life. It is evident we are dealing with some sort of superior, advanced stage of evolutionary intellectual development. I mean it. Just look at her latest rumored move: Stunningly smart! Yep, things have been apparently tough for her and Cletus these day...

Well, it happened. Last night in fact. I turned in my rank list. Now let's just hope I don't have constant diarrhea until Jan 23rd. For clarification, the rank list is me, listing the residency programs I interviewed at in order of my preference. The programs that interviewed me rank all the people they interview in order of their preference. A computer algorithm then looks first at my list, takes my top choice and compares me to that programs rank list. If I rank high enough there...

Perhaps it is the anonymity. Perhaps it is the sheer number of people you can meet. Perhaps I am nuts. But the internet sure seems to bring out a lot of delusional people. While I have met a number of them in real life, most of the real grandiose ones are at least on medication. On the net, though, it is a different story. The number of people who not only seem to think they are so amazing that their farts smell of roses, but that they also, do in fact, pinch off gilded loaves is ...
